Once Again the Village Board voted to rescue the Metropolis Theatre. This time with a $75,000 loan, to meet expenses until year end. The Metropolis was purchased in 2004 by the Village to bail out Mr. Mark Anderson, the Theater's developer and campaign contributor to Mrs. Mulder. He lost big bucks, now we own it.
The Theatre is subsidized each year with an entertainment tax to the amount of $150,000 to $250,000. Every time we have to hear "the theatre is the centerpiece to downtown Arlington."
The problem with that reason is the Theatre is a 'failed asset'. So a 'failed asset' is the center piece of downtown Arlington? Maybe our local leaders got one right for a change.
