Tis’ the season for campaign receipts and expenditures by the Arlington Heights trustee candidates. To receive or spend more than $3,000 a candidate must file a D-1 Statement of Political Committee Organization with the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE). The ISBE requires all individual contributions above $150 to be reported.
The Village of Arlington Heights also has guidelines in their Ethics Code, Section 1-707 Campaign Contributions. Village contribution limits are $250 by an individual, $500 by an organization.
Anyone can follow the finances of a candidate. Simply go to the Illinois State Board of Elections website, click on Committee Search. Then enter the name of the candidate’s political committee and view the various reports that are required to be filed with the ISBE. Following are the political committee names of the candidates for Arlington Heights:
Citizens for Arlene Mulder:
Mrs. Mulder is not running for office this cycle. However, her political committee is a virtual clearing house of campaign donations and contributions. Mrs. Mulder filed an amended D-1 on November 16, 2010. Mr. Frank Lee is the treasurer and Mr. Gary McClurg is the chairman.
As of June 30, 2010 Mrs. Mulder has $14,400 in campaign funds. She was cited by the Illinois State Board of Elections, Mr. Rupert T. Borgsmillar, Executive Director, on February 4, 2011 for the violation of ‘not stating the designation of the political committee’.
Friends for John Scaletta:
Mr. Scaletta amended the D-1 Statement on December 10, 2010. Mr. Frank Soprano is the treasurer. Excess campaign funds will go the philanthropic Arlington Heights group ‘Buzz’ and is starting the campaign season with about $2,400.00.
Mr. Scaletta has been fined 3 times for campaign disclosure violations by the Illinois State Board of Elections.
Mr. Thomas Hayes:
Mr. Hayes has no political committee. By filing no D-1 statement Mr. Hayes surprisingly claims he does not spend or receive more than $3,000 on his campaigns. Mr. Hayes has never opened a political committee with the ISBE and has been a trustee since 1991.
Citizens for Bruce Green:
Mr. Green filed the D-1 Statement on March 7, 2011 with about $1,200 in campaign funds. Ms. Karen Szjka is the treasurer and any excess campaign funds will go to Arlington Heights Memorial Park.
Friends of Carol J. Blackwood:
Ms. Blackwood filed the D-1 Statement on November 1, 2010 with $0 money. Mr. Terry Ennes, of the planning commission, is the chairman and Mr. Frank Soprano is the treasurer. Any excess campaign funds go the philanthropic Arlington Heights group ‘Buzz’.
Citizens for Mike Sidor:
Mr. Sidor filed the D-1 Statement on January 12, 2011 with $1,275 in campaign funds. Ms. Amy Kitzmiller is the treasurer with any excess funds returned to the contributors.
