Arlington Heights
Village Board Meeting, July 10, 2017
Agenda item XII.
Metropolis Seating Repair Approval of bids,
Addressing the
Village board about the replacement of seats in the Theatre.
Thank you President
Hayes,
The fact that we are
discussing seating repair at the Metropolis Theater should be
considered good news. Because the last thing I thought would ever wear out
at the Metropolis Theater are the seats. But since we have poured
probably somewhere north of $7M into the Metropolis since we bailed
out Mark Andersen in 2005, with continued Village subsidies of about
$250,000/yr, I do not think we should be quibbling over a few dollars
when upgrading the seats for Metropolis customers.
If you are
considering the Preferred Seating option at about $65,000
versus the American Office Services at about $34,000 with a
difference of $31,000. Why skimp now on expenditures especially when
it comes to seats for the customers? If guests are finally attending
these third rate shows I think they deserve to be treated as well as
possible. If anyone has been to movie theaters around here seats are
basically reclining lounge chairs, I think the Metropolis has to
compete with that luxury.
So, for an extra
$30,000 we can have longer lasting, higher quality seats that will
probably never have to be replaced again. Believe it or not, my
opinion would be to go with the vendor Preferred Seating at
for upgrade to seats at the Metropolis Theater.
While we are
discussing seating maybe you could spare a few dollars to improve the
seats here in the visitor's gallery, I challenge you all to sit here
for three hours.
Thank you President
Hayes
