Arlene Mulder should resign from Metra board
Arlene Mulder, former president of Arlington Heights, is practicing the fine art of trying 'not to be seen' in plain sight. Mrs. Mulder is on the scandal ridden Metra board that gave CEO Alex Clifford a lavish severance package to leave without talking about patronage hiring at the public agency.
Very little has been said about Mrs. Mulder (Metra board secretary) since the scandal broke in June 2013. On July 25th The Chicago Tribune Editorial board asked the entire Metra board to resign. The Daily Herald has not called for the Metra board to resign. Then again the Daily Herald spent several editorial days praising Mrs. Mulder's leadership after she resigned as Village President.
But Mrs. Mulder continues to resist the Tribune's request. Probably on the grounds that nothing was done illegal in offering Mr. Clifford the scandalous severance package. Of course Mrs. Mulder does not understand that legality is not the issue here.
The reason for her to resign is Metra board members violated public trust by squandering our money to cover their own mismanagement. The board's argument is that the severance package is cheaper than paying legal fees to defend their decision to release Mr. Clifford. This argument is a false choice. Both options are designed to cover their mismanagement, which is wrong in the first place.
