Lt. Col. Hayes, the Ethical One, as Marathon Man

Still not exactly sure why anyone would voluntarily run a Marathon of 26.2 miles. However there was a class act of character and integrity that emerged after the bomb attacks during the Boston Marathon.  Some marathon runners, after finishing the race, ran another two miles to the nearest hospital to donate blood for the victims.
.
Was Arlington Heights President-elect Tom Hayes, who participated in the Marathon, among those sprinting to the hospital to give blood?  Apparently not, his choice was to sprint to Logan Airport and be on time for Arlene Mulder’s last Village board meeting.  Amazingly Mr. Hayes was able to exit Boston even before Logan Airport was closed; if he was a terrorist he would have escaped.
.
It is difficult to know how anyone would behave under such circumstances. Interesting how Mr. Hayes who is constantly described as being long on character and integrity would choose running away from the opportunity to prove it.
.
Even his West Point training, another fact constantly thrown at us, did not suggest a response for the greater good.  Lt. Col. Hayes graduated from West Point in 1978 and retired in 2001, not exactly a time of any great military conflict.
.
It is clear that Mr. Hayes never even momentarily considered extending his Boston visit for an altruistic purpose, because he was able to leave before the airport was quickly closed. Politics was (and is) an overwhelming priority to him. That was to get back to Arlington Heights and thank Mrs. Mulder for her election support.
.
In Daily Herald article dated April 19th Mr. Hayes lamented about the grueling campaign for Village President. ‘The worst thing is the personal attack on your character and integrity’ he said. So he can take all the accolades but not the criticism, welcome to politics, Mr. Hayes.
.
Mr. Hayes had a front row opportunity to prove his character and integrity. Apparently he chose a self-serving response to that challenge.
