Teacher Pay and Dedication

For years the Daily Herald Editorial Board has been critical of teacher's salary, work ethic, student results and pensions. So how can the Editorial Board be surprised when a number of on-line commentators launch a diatribe against teachers even in the light of the heroics and murder of Sandy Hook Elementary School teacher Victoria Soto? (Herald Editorial: Victoria Soto and the devotion of our teachers, 12/23/2012.)

Unfortunately it took the Sandy Hook School disaster to finally reveal to the Editorial Board and others the dedication teachers  have toward their students. Maybe we can now understand that teacher value can not be measured through a simple metric as standardized test scores. How do you assess merit pay for teacher job performance such as that of Ms. Victoria Soto?
