Leaf Pickup and Village Business Transparency

After the League of Women Voters Forum on Saturday, I had a chance to speak with many residents regarding leaf pick-up and transparency.

Leaf pick-up is a service the Village could easily provide to residents. Like Mount Prospect the Village could vacuum leaves each Fall from the curb free of charge. Retrofitted trucks would provide the service. Currently the Village charges for stickers to attach to brown bags full of leaves. The fee for the stickers rise each year and will be $2.00/sticker this year.

The Board has always said it is too expensive to provide leaf pick up for the residents. If the Board made leaf pick-up a priority the service could be provided by the Village. If elected I will make leaf pick up a priority for Village residents.

Transparency for Village business is another service the Village should provide. For example, DuPage County places on-line all contracts, expenses and revenues for residents to view. By doing so the resident could monitor how Village funds are spent and collected.

Currently a Freedom of Information form must be filed to obtain Village business information. The turnaround is through the legal department and may take 7 business days. Using available modern technology Village expenditures and revenues could be posted daily for all to access. If elected I will make on-line access of Village business a priority.

Thank-you, your comments are welcome.
